This passage captures the dramatic and pivotal moment in the story of David and Goliath, when young David confronts the Philistine giant in battle.

  • Verse 40: David, rejecting traditional armor, chooses five smooth stones and his sling—tools of a shepherd, not a soldier.

  • Verses 41–44: Goliath mocks David, seeing only a boy with no weapons of war.

  • Verses 45–47: David boldly proclaims that his strength comes from the Lord, not from weapons, and that the battle belongs to God.

  • Verses 48–51: David runs toward Goliath, strikes him on the forehead with a stone from his sling, and kills him. He then uses Goliath’s own sword to cut off his head, securing victory for Israel.
