The Woman Caught in Adultery (vs. 1–11)

The scribes and Pharisees brought a woman caught in adultery to Jesus, testing Him to see if He would uphold the Law of Moses.

Jesus responded, “Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her.”

One by one, they left. Jesus forgave the woman, telling her, “Go, and sin no more.”

Jesus, the Light of the World (vs. 12–20)

Jesus declared, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

The Pharisees challenged Him, but He affirmed that His testimony was true because it came from the Father.

The Truth Will Set You Free (vs. 31–36)

Jesus told those who believed in Him: “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

He explained that true freedom is not political or social, but spiritual freedom from sin.

Debate with the Pharisees (vs. 37–59)

Jesus exposed the Pharisees’ spiritual blindness, saying they were of their father the devil, because they rejected the truth.

He declared His eternal identity with the profound words: “Before Abraham was, I am.” — a direct claim to His divinity.

The Pharisees, angered, attempted to stone Him, but He escaped.
