  • The Woman Caught in Adultery (vs. 1–11)

    • The scribes and Pharisees brought a woman caught in adultery to Jesus, testing Him to see if He would uphold the Law of Moses.

    • Jesus responded, “Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her.”

    • One by one, they left. Jesus forgave the woman, telling her, “Go, and sin no more.”

  • Jesus, the Light of the World (vs. 12–20)

    • Jesus declared, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

    • The Pharisees challenged Him, but He affirmed that His testimony was true because it came from the Father.

  • The Truth Will Set You Free (vs. 31–36)

    • Jesus told those who believed in Him: “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

    • He explained that true freedom is not political or social, but spiritual freedom from sin.

  • Debate with the Pharisees (vs. 37–59)

    • Jesus exposed the Pharisees’ spiritual blindness, saying they were of their father the devil, because they rejected the truth.

    • He declared His eternal identity with the profound words: “Before Abraham was, I am.” — a direct claim to His divinity.

    • The Pharisees, angered, attempted to stone Him, but He escaped.
