Chateau Church Worship

This passage tells the story of a man who had been sick for 38 years, lying by the pool of Bethesda where many disabled people gathered, hoping for healing when the waters were stirred.

  • Jesus approached the man and asked: “Do you want to be made well?”

  • The man explained his helplessness—he had no one to put him in the pool.

  • Jesus simply commanded: “Get up, pick up your mat, and walk.”

  • Immediately, the man was healed and walked away carrying his mat.

This story highlights that true healing comes not from human systems or traditions, but from Jesus Himself.

Lessons:

  1. Human Helplessness (v. 5–7)

    • The man depended on others but remained in his condition for 38 years.

    • Sometimes people rely on traditions, rituals, or others instead of trusting Christ.

  2. Divine Initiative (v. 6)

    • Jesus sought the man out and asked the heart-searching question: “Do you want to be made well?”

    • God often meets us at our point of deepest need.

  3. Power of Christ’s Word (v. 8–9)

    • Healing came instantly, not by the pool, but by Jesus’ spoken word.

    • Real change happens when we obey Christ in faith.
